Fire
Originally recorded by: Jimi Hendrix
Alright,
now dig this, baby
You don't care for me
I don't care about that
Gotta new fool, ha!
I'd like it like that
I have only one burning desire
Let me stand next to your fire
(Let me stand next to your fire)
Whoa, let me stand baby
(Let me stand next to your fire)
Let me stand
(Let me stand next to your fire)
Yeah, baby
Listen here, baby
and stop acting so crazy
You say your mom ain't home,
it ain't my concern,
Just play with me and you won't get burned
I have only one itching desire
Let me stand, baby
(Let me stand next to your fire)
Let me stand
(Let me stand next to your fire)
Oh, let me stand
(Let me stand next to your fire)
Ow! Ahh, move over, Rover
and let Jimi take over
Yeah, you know what I'm talking 'bout
Yeah, get on with it, baby
That's what I'm talking 'bout
Now dig this!
Ha!
Now listen, baby
You try to give me your money
you better save it, babe
Save it for your rainy day
I have only one burning desire
Let me stand next to your fire, ha
Ow!
(Let me stand next to your fire)
Oh, let me stand
(Let me stand next to your fire)
Oh, let me stand, baby
(Let me stand next to your fire)
I
ain't gonna do you no harm
(Let me stand next to your fire)
Ow, Yeah, You better move over baby
I ain't gonna hurt ya baby
Ah, I ain't talkin' with your ol' lady
Ow, Ah, Yes this is Jimi talkin' to you
Yeah, baby

Documentation
This song was recorded by Jimi Hendrix in
1967 on his first album "Are You Experienced?".
The main lyrics in this song (Let me stand next to your fire") came from a time when the band had just finished a gig in the cold. They went to bass player Noel Redding's mother's house. When they got there, Jimi asked Margaret, the mother, to "Let me stand next to your fire."
The line "Move over Rover and let Jimi take over" comes from when they were at Noel Redding's mothers house. Jimi wanted to stand by the fire, but the Reddings' German Shepard dog was in the way.
Rick has performed this song several
times in concert including:
10/20/01 Decatur, IL Lincoln Square Theater
Benefit
09/22/02 Puyallup, WA - The Fair
Rick has replaced the line "Move
over Rover...." with "move over Gomer, let Ricky take over,
let Daddy take over, and let Bucky take over".
