I Saw Her Standing There Written by: Paul McCartney/John Lennon
|
Documentation This song was originally recorded by The Beatles in 1963 and released on Please Please Me. Paul wrote the song for Iris Caldwell, who was the sister of Rory Storm of Rory Storm and the Hurricanes (the band Ringo came from). He knew that in order to be successful his songs would have to be geared toward teenage girls and have a personal sound to them. The original title was "Seventeen, I Saw Her Standing There" with "She was just seventeen/never been a beauty queen". John changed the line that Paul wrote in this song, from "never been a beauty queen" to "you know what I mean". Elton John recorded a cover of the song with John Lennon in 1975. Tiffany recorded a version (changing "her" to "him") in 1987. Rick has performed this song several times in concert, including: 11/01/00 Joliet, IL
