When God Forgets My Name
Written by Rick Springfield
Yeah, I constantly wake up feeling somehow just the same as I did
And I'm always looking for someone else to blame, God
forbid
Yeah, nothing changes but somehow it never
stays the same
And I feel like the unpopular kid in a high school kickball game
Yeah, I know there can be no fire without a flame
As I look for the reason I've become what I became
When inside I know exactly the one who's to blame
The insecure kid with regrets
When God forgets my name
(I will not let you sink and drown)
And I have to bear the pain
(We are children as London Bridge falls down)
Am I s'posed to play this game
(We are one and I will not back down)
When God forgets my name
The years passed so fast I wasn't
ready to be a man, but I was
And I went without a vision without a master plan
into the jaws
Of my future like an unskilled artisan
Looking constantly behind me for the childhood bogeyman
My feet flying faster but I just never outran
The dream that had ended long before it began
And I realize my life is just a flash in the pan
I'm alone when the sun finally sets
When God forgets my name
(I will not let you sink and drown)
And I have to bear the pain
(We are children as London Bridge falls down)
Am I s'posed to play this game,
(We are one and I will not back down)
When God forgets my name
I long to be someone, the leader of the band for you
Nothing ever turned out exactly like I'd planned so true
The ground trembled when I finally made my stand
But I was lost in the smoke and cigarettes
When God forgets my name
(I will not let you sink and drown)
And I have to bear the pain
(We are children as London Bridge falls down)
Am I s'posed to play this game
(We are one and I will not back down)
When God forgets my name
When God forgets my name
(I will not let you sink and drown)
Nothing remains the same
(We are children as London Bridge falls down)
Are all our prayers in vain
(We are one and I will not back down)
When God forgets my name
