LOOKING
FOR THE ONE
(words by Rick Springfield)
I was feelin' much in need
Of the arms of a lover
When my radar picked her up
On the arm of another
I've been lookin' for the one
And I tell you brother
I had the feeling we were gonna be more than friends
We were each other
Still Looking For The One
With the fire in her eyes
Living inside a paradise
Still Looking For The One
On like the light,
Darlin' don't let me sleep alone tonight
Still Looking For The One
And wake in the morning all alone and
Looking For The One
Looking For The One
Too many nights with the wrong one
And my heart ran for cover
I'm a lonely, lonely soul
In search of another
I've been a wanderer baby
Since I left my mother
I got a feelin' your gonna be here in time and
I know you will
Still Looking For The One
With the fire in her eyes
Living inside a paradise
Still Looking For The One
On like the light
Darlin' don't let me sleep alone tonight
(Still Looking For The One)
And wake in the morning all alone and
Looking For The One
Looking For The One
Still Looking For The One
With the fire in her eyes
Living inside a paradise
Still Looking For The One
On like the light
Darlin' don't let me sleep alone tonight
(Still Looking For The One)
And wake in the morning all alone and
Looking For The One
Looking For The One
Looking For The One

According to US
This is a rather sweet & lonely song, I think. When I hear this song, my heart just goes out to him, and I feel for the fact that he was so lonely when he wrote this. This is not one of my favorite Rick songs by any means. I certainly don't hate this song, but I believe I could take it or leave it. When I think of hearing a few tunes from Beautiful Feelings…this is NOT the first song that comes to mind. The lyrics are nice though and the music is catchy, so I don't usually skip it. (This is another one of those songs that I kind of swing back & forth on). My favorite lines in the song, for the meaning in the words & the way it flows through the music are
"Still looking for the one with the fire in her eyes, living this side of
paradise." He was longing for someone he could connect with, share true love with. (Isn't he always "longing" for someone, or something?!) He was seeking a woman with passion, a match made in heaven. "Fire in her eyes," is a great description on his part! But…like so many of Rick's songs…she belonged to another! I also love how his voice sounds, and how the last time he says the word "paradise" he kind of stretches it out.
Even though he says that he's spent too many nights with the wrong one, and he's built a wall around his heart ("my heart ran for cover") he still doesn't want to "sleep alone tonight." I can't help but think of him as Noah (the young Noah), when he tells Bobbie "I don't wanna sleep alone tonight." LOL! Ok…so he doesn't like to an empty bed. We've established that much! Can I blame him??! No…I don't. Loneliness is not a sweet emotion. I thank God for Rick that he finally DID find "the one" in Barbie. He apparently found the soul mate & the happiness he longed for and deserves.

You know how when you have to take some medicine that tastes nasty and you don't really want to take it but you have to, so you plug your nose and do it? I swear I'm getting those same feelings from listening to the music on this album. The next song pops up for review, and I sigh -hold my nose- (which makes it really hard to type) and do it.
Yes, this music sounds like some cheesy sitcom starting. That's gotta be the most perfect analogy I've ever read here. Considering I've been a fan of some highly cheesy television in my day, you'd think I'd like this song a whole lot more. It pains me greatly to say that I hate something that Rick Springfield recorded, it really does. But man, do I hate this song. It's at this point that I normally stop listening to this album, because it only goes downhill from here. In fact the whole second side just makes me want to go "ewww." It's actually been years since I've listened to it and now I remember why.
Rick sounds like he's speaking really fast, rather than singing this one. It reminds me of some slick auctioneer. Here letmetalkrealfastandyouwon'thearhowhorriblethisis . I'm actually apprehensive that "words by Rick Springfield" is true. Maybe this was the lithium years though.
Because Rick is babbling so fast in this one, I also suspect that what I was hearing and what's given as lyrics are two different things. In the first stanza, the last line is "we were each other" ? WTF? You were each other's what? Of course, I never came up with anything on my own for this one - it was more like, "We were
mumble-mumble" Second stanza, "living inside a
paradise" sounds better my way (lol) "living this side of paradise".
"Still looking for the one on like the light" Huh? Not a dim bulb? I have no idea for this.

OK that the opening sounds like something I've heard before is driving me nuts but I'll try to get past this and get to the song.
I like this one a lot more than the last one - but that one did not set the bar too high. This song just seems like a not so subtle come-on attempt. As in, come on baby I'm still looking for 'the one' and you just might be it -- or I might just want to not wake up alone, but no really it might be YOU - you might be the one.
Overall the song just seems so basic - way too many very obvious rhymes that jump out at me... lover/another/brother/other then cover/another/mother so it's almost like songwriting 101. So overall it's not my favorite on the album but also not the bottom of the barrel either. Put another way, it doesn't make me cringe but it also doesn't snag me as a song I want to hear again and again.

That tune! I swear, it sounds like an opening song for one of those tv shows from the 80's. Well, that's what it reminds me of, anyway. I know it's not, but something about it sounds/feels familiar, like when you go through something in everyday life and you think, this feels like it happened before. This song does that to me.
Here we go with the darlin' and stuff again....mmmm, I like to hear him say that! Now, in this song he refers to 'brother' instead of 'mama' and 'sister' in "Spanish Eyes", but that darlin' is still there. Suits me just fine, I love it!
As far as the song as a whole....well, it's pretty good, but it's not a song that I would call a Rick masterpiece. I like the music and stuff, but the lyrics are just 'there' and nothing grabs me in it, except for that fine, young Rick voice, of course!
