This I Promise You For Life
(Duet
with Maggie Brandon)
(Words and Music by Maggie Brandon)
I must be breathin' but I feel so disconnected
From the rest of the world right now
I'm lost in your eyes just the way that I suspected
I would be as I promised this vow
My lips are tremblin' in time with yours
Just knowin' what you're goin' to say
And this I promise you for life
For forever and a day
I'm here for better or for worse
You'll be my last you were my first
I promise you for life
Ain't nothin' better than to wrap your arms around me
As I gaze at the stars above
While I thank the heavens and I bless the day you found me
I'd be lost here without your love
I stand to promise you here and now
Forever this is where I will stay
And this I promise you for life
For forever and a day
I'm here for better or for worse
You'll be my last you were my first
I promise you for life
No storms gonna steal our thunder
No cloud could eclipse our love
Every day gonna make it stronger
Promise you all this above
And this I promise you for life
No matter where the journey leads
I'm right beside you to the end
I'll be your lover and your friend
Until the journey ends
I promise you for life
I must be breathin' but I feel so disconnected
From the rest of the world right now
I'm lost in your eyes just the way that I suspected
I would be as I promised this vow
My lips are tremblin' in time with yours
Just knowin' what you're goin' to say
And this I promise you for life
For forever and a day
I'm here for better or for worse
You'll be my last you were my first
I promise you for life
Ain't nothin' better than to wrap your arms around me
As I gaze at the stars above
While I thank the heavens and I bless the day you found me
I'd be lost here without your love
I stand to promise you here and now
Forever this is where I will stay
And this I promise you for life
For forever and a day
I'm here for better or for worse
You'll be my last you were my first
I promise you for life
No storms gonna steal our thunder
No cloud could eclipse our love
Every day gonna make it stronger
Promise you all this above
And this I promise you for life
No matter where the journey leads
I'm right beside you to the end
I'll be your lover and your friend

According
to US An absolute
must for me to like a song is that it HAS to rhyme, with very few exceptions, and the
rhymes can't be stupid. I like the way this song was written in that regard.
Disconnected - suspected, better or worse - you were my first.
I like it that Rick starts out singing the song, and I also like the way they switch the
order in the second verse. I love the change of pace when they get to "no
storm's gonna steal our thunder".....
This does not sound like Rick had an easy time singing this song. His voice sounds a
little strained to me (although it's kind of a good thing because it just works for the
song). It also sounds to me like Maggie is doing most of the work as far
as coinciding with the singing. It seems like she's following his lead. I
wonder if they sang together at the same time, or if Rick laid down his track and Maggie
sang over it.
I also really like the part toward the end where Maggie is echoing what Rick is singing,
that's a very strong part of the song. This really is a great wedding song, and I
have a feeling that any Rick Springfield fan that gets married in the future can easily
work it into their wedding without getting weird looks as to why they are wanting to play
that song.
I also want to add, I think I might like the song after it (Tonight I Saw An Angel), even
more. It's a great song, too. - rlh
