That One

(Springfield/Bissonette)

That one really got me where it hurt

Hit me hard, put me face down in the dirt

I never ever felt this pain inside before

Her eyes seemed to show me to the door

Even when she knew I wanted more

I could’ve should’ve ended us tonight

But, I’m not gonna lie I didn’t wanna be free

But, she’s staring at him and barely looking at me

And I know that I know that she’s made me come undone

I’m dead tired of getting down on my knees

Till she promises me that I’m all that she sees

Then she heads for the door to the place where she will run

To the arms of that one

That one really hit below the belt

I didn’t get it then, but I got dealt

I never knew love could be denied before

Guess, I learned the dark side of the flirt

Guess, I’m just a sucker for a skirt

Guess, I always thought that she was mine

And I’m not gonna lie I never wanted to see

But, she’s staring at him and barely looking at me

And I know that I know that she’s made me come undone

I’m dead tired of getting down on my knees

Till she promises me that I’m all that she sees

Then she heads for the door to the place where she will run

To the arms of that one

Oh, that one really nailed me to the floor

Now I know what I won’t be looking for

Another pretty face where I’m just next in line

But I’m not gonna lie I didn’t wanna be free

But she’s staring at him and barely looking at me

And I know that I know that she’s made me come undone

I’m dead tired of getting down on my knees

Till she promises me that I’m all that she sees

Then she heads for the door to the place where she will run

And she cuts to the chase and I’m left with damage done

And I’m all but erased as her new life has begun in the arms of that one

Into the arms of that one

According to US

I can hear and feel the desperation throughout "That One." It’s such a sad and lonely song and I have a hard time listening to it.

The lyrics are a bit ironic to me in that the man is heartbroken and desperate to hold on to the woman. It kind of feels like the "traditional" relationship roles are reversed. It feels like the woman is either cheating, or thinking about cheating. And it feels like the man is hopelessly and desperately in love.

Clearly this song is about a relationship coming to an end. It feels like these two people have run their course and the only thing to do is bring the relationship to an official end.

The saddest part for me is how hopeless "That One" feels. We know the relationship is over and that’s the reality of the situation.
