Walkin' In
(Springfield/Bissonette/Hardin)
Didn't wanna see your tail lights pulling out of my drive
reading me my rights
at 2 am
Didn't wanna be the phone call
Didn't wanna be the stonewall that you crashed your heart into, yeah, here I go again
Then don't tell me I like goodbyes
Tell the tears standing in my eyes
I love walkin in
I hate walkin out
But there's no way to fix what's broken now
It's such a sin, not what love's about
I love walking in
I hate walking out
I remember your skin
shining in the morning
Your smile against my lips, your body warm from the sun
I miss that we were once forever
I miss you waking up in my sweater
I hope you find somebody better
I guess I'm not the one
There's so much that I can't forget
Looks like I was a sucker's bet
I love walkin in
I hate walkin out
I crossed that ridge, and burned that bridge, it's over now
It's such a sin, not what love's about
I love walkin' in
I hate walkin out
I wish we could go back and make it work somehow
We can only do what heaven will allow
I know it's too late to say this now
But, I'm gonna miss you
I love walkin' in
I hate walkin out
But there's no way to fix what's broken now
It's such a sin, not what love's about
I love walking in
I hate walking out
I love walking in
I hate walking out

According to US
Most people think I'm crazy when I say this, but this is my all time favorite
Rick Springfield song - like ever. Every time a new cd comes out, I always
have this small hope that my all time favorite song will be on it. There have
been a lot of songs that I really liked, but never one I'd consider my #1, at
least not for any significant amount of time. Wasted was pretty close. I'm
not sure exactly what it is about this song, that has such a hold on me. - I
think it's partly the voice, partly that I listen to Country music all the time,
and this would fit right in on country radio, and partly because of the
circumstances of hearing it the first time. We were in Port St. Lucie at Club
Med, April 2015. It had become a tradition for Rick to kick off the trip by
bringing an acoustic guitar to the pool area and taking requests. He played a
few songs, then all of a sudden he starts playing this unfamiliar tune. Then he
starts singing. What is this, I'm thinking to myself. I loved it from the
beginning. When he got to the part "I hope you find somebody better" I nearly
started crying. And I've never cried during a song, so that was a very memorable
moment. We got to hear it a few more time at the piano bar performances. Then
a recording surfaced on the internet - where he apparently had played this at a
Florida show even before the Fan trip. I had to force myself not to listen to
it, or any of the other recordings we had from the trip, over and over and over
again, because I knew I could easily burn out, and I really wanted it to be
somewhat fresh when the recorded version was released. I absolutely could not
believe it when the cd came out and it ended up being a Bonus Track. I do
think it was quite clever how they took the idea of going to work out - where he
hates walking in and loves walking out, and flipped it around. As I listen to
this song now, to refresh my thoughts for this review, listening to this song
just makes me feel better, even though its sad. I can't explain it. And, I
can't help but think that this is exactly how many of us feel when going to a
show - love the start of the experience, hate when its over. - rlh
