JUST ONE KISS

(Music & Lyrics by Billy Steinberg & Tom Kelly)

You look a little lonely babe, a little blue
You know you're not the only one, I'm lonely too
I've been surviving just day by day
I had some dreams but they all blew away

And then I saw your face across a crowded room
My heart missed a beat, oh did you feel it too
To trust someone you just gotta be bold
The wall that you're building is crumbling, oh

Why don't we break it down
Why don't we break it down
Pretty baby
It's gonna, it's gonna take
Take just one kiss
Just one kiss
It's gonna, it's gonna take
Take just one kiss
To break it down

You look a little lonely, babe, a little blue
I said you're not the only one, I'm lonely too
I can't deny my heart anymore
You give me a feeling that I can't ignore

You try to play it safe, but you're not really shy
You try to look away, but I caught your eye
You can't hide, it's all over your face
The barrier between us is losing its place

Why don't we break it down
Why don't we break it down
Pretty baby
It's gonna, it's gonna take
Take just one kiss
Just one kiss
It's gonna, it's gonna take
Take just one kiss, yeah just one kiss
It's gonna, it's gonna take
Take just one kiss
To break it down

Why don't we break it down
Why don't we break it down
Pretty baby
It's gonna, it's gonna take
Take just one kiss
Just one kiss
It's gonna, it's gonna take
Take just one kiss
To break it, break it down

It's gonna, it's gonna take
Take just one kiss, yeah just one kiss
It's gonna, it's gonna take
Take just one kiss
To break it, break it down

It's gonna, it's gonna take
Take just one kiss
Just one kiss

SONG FACTS:

Rick performed this song on the Live and Kickin Special.
He also performed it at several concerts he did during the EFX years.  Rick thinks this song sucks! (some of us don't agree)

It appears on the following releases:
Success Hasn't Spoiled Me Yet, Best of,  Calling All Girls - Romantic Collection and Legendary.

Footnote - the background picture was taken in Lakewood, OH.

This is the "feel good song" of the album I think. I always thought this song would make a great duet, and in fact I often "duet" with Rick when this one is playing in my car. I let Rick handle the first 4 lines -then I chime in on "And then I saw your face across the crowded room, My heart missed a beat, oh did you feel it too" Then we sing it together when it gets to the "Why don't we break it down....".

Sigh...I'm such a legend in my own mind! LOL I won't sing in public, but alone in the car is another thing. It's just me and Rick Springfield. No one else exists.

Seeing Rick do this one live, for the few times he has done it -has been fun. I don't know why he thinks this is one of the worst songs he's ever written (he obviously doesn't frequent here to learn otherwise!) because it's such a cute little ditty. Oh wait, I forgot guys don't like the term "cute". It's such a nice little ditty. Damn, that sounds like I just want to be friends. Okay...maybe I do just want to be friends with this one, but in a close-friendship kind of way.

Since Rick did not write this one, I guess it would be a moot point to try to guess what the man was feeling/thinking/hoping on this one. It does sound like he was having fun when he was recording it though, although that could just be the actor in him coming out. It ain't no Jessie's Girl, for sure - but it is definitely not one to skip over when listening to SHSMY. - Michelle P.

I LOVE this song, and I'm not afraid to admit it! Yes, it might be cheesy, but it's the best kind of cheese. This is one of those songs that you just have to sing along with, and when you do, you have to bop your head and point your finger. How can you not? I never skip this song. I might move to the next one before it's over because it does repeat a lot at the end, but this song always lifts my mood. - rlh

Another awesome song from this CD....I love almost the whole thing and I swear I probably wore this album out when I was younger. I just couldn't get enough of it.

My favorite words, (or phrase) has got to be "pretty baby"......I love the way he says it and has that emphasis thrown into it. Funny how he's saying this 'girl' or 'woman' is shy and can't 'hide', it's all over your face........hmmm, now it seems the tables are turned once we make it to this song, and Rick is trying to get the girl to admit she really wants to talk to him after he just confessed he couldn't talk to girls........HA! - Amy L.

I breathed a sigh of relief when I discovered Rick did not write this song. There is some way of not holding him entirely responsible
for this. I remember reading somewhere that because he was so busy with GH and touring during the pre-production and production of this album that he had the least to do with the result of all of his albums. It's glaringly apparent here. This song is so Shawn Cassidy-esque,teenybopper that it is no wonder he had such problems with image. Sorry to those of you who thought Shawn was wonderful. Clearly someone was pandering to label interests. It has a sellout sound. I don't even like the way he sings it. It's so whiny. The chorus is annoying.  Even the music sounds like something anybody could have written. Super Teenybopper Pop at it's best. Why oh why did he do this? - Elizabeth S.

This is kind of cute song. Again…like a few others on SHSMY, not my favorite song by Rick…or even in my favorites list of the greatest Rick Springfield songs of all times. It's not an awful song though. Maybe it's me, but it just feels a little bit `outdated' when I hear it now. Maybe it's TOO pop-ish or something. I like the lyrics more than I like the music, that much is for sure. I wonder how much Rick had to do with the final version of this song? He said that he was so busy during this album that a lot of it was done `for' him while he was out on the road or filming at GH.

Some lines I like---"And then I saw your face across a crowded room. My heart missed a beat, oh did you feel it too", (I can say this much… when I see Rick, *my* heart skips a beat…so yeah…I felt it too. It's been doing that skipping thing since I first discovered him a lifetime ago!) I also like the line---"The barrier between us is losing it's place." He thinks her `walls' are coming down and she'll let him in. Another lyric/phrase I think is good---"pretty baby." That has the sweetest sound to it, like a pet name.

The only thing I can really gather from this song is that he was after someone who was maybe playing hard-to-get, and he seemed to think that if he could give her `just one kiss' then things would go his way! Um, yeah…that would probably do it for her! I like the confidence (cockiness maybe?!) in this song. He thought he could `work his magic' and she'd fall into his arms. Well, wouldn't she??!!! LOL

This is a pretty good performance on the Live and Kickin' DVD also. Again, not a favorite song of mine, but a cute and catchy song that's easy to sing along with.  - Kelley Pearson
