LOVE IS THE KEY
(Words and music by Rick Springfield)

Here is the news to make you feel better
Love Is The Key
Oh what can we lose if our hearts are together
Love Is The Key
Kick off your shoes and get down with it
Love Is The Key
Just let the music take you there
And open your heart to the world

Love Is The Key
Love Is The Key
So plain to see
Love Is The Key

Here's what I've found
Love really makes the world go 'round

Ooh, kick out the blues and let the music take you
Love Is The Key
How can we lose, its not gonna break you
Love Is The Key
Kick off your shoes and get down with it
Love Is The Key
And sing to the world to listen, listen
And open their ears to the music

Love Is The Key
Love Is The Key
It's so plain to see
Love Is The Key

Here's what I've found
Love really makes the world go 'round

Love Is The Key
Love Is The Key
Love Is The Key
Just let the music take you there
And open your heart to the world

Love Is The Key
Love Is The Key
So plain to see
Love Is The Key

Here's what I've found
Love really makes the world go 'round

 According to US

After watching the episode of Mission Magic that this song came from, not sure what the inspiration for it was. It doesn't really go with the episode. There's a couple of lines that mention "music", but that's the only tie in that I see. It's a very simple song, and I think for what it is, which is a cartoon sound track, it served it's purpose. - rlh

This will probably not be the last time I say this while reviewing the songs from Mission Magic, but I really find the uplifting positive Rick songs a nice change of pace from time to time. This is one of those songs. It has a cheerful message about how music can make you feel better---"Love is the key. Just let the music take you there and open your heart to the world." It's a beautiful thought to think that all you need is love and music and that it's the `key' to happiness and all things good in the world. Sometimes that is true and other times it's not. But I can definitely say that music is a healing thing and has a way of changing my moodsespecially the bad moods. ("Oh kick out the blues and let the music take you. Love is the key. How can we lose? It's not gonna break you. Love is the key.") It's an amazing way to escape the difficult times and it really CAN open your heart and mind. I'm just not too sure how love and music relate or tie things together in this song.

I like how this song kind of `jumps in there' from the start. The music breaks in suddenly, with an urgency---"Here is the news to make you feel better. Love is the key. Oh what can we lose if our hearts are together. Love is the key." The song mentions "kicking off your shoes" several times. I'm guessing by this he means to get comfortable with the music? Relax, kick your shoes off? Not sure

This is a decent song with a blissful, sing-along feel to it, but it's not one of my most favorite tracks from Mission Magic. It's not the worst of the lot, but it's not the best, in my opinion. I can't decide if this song is better standing alone or with the episode in which it's written for. It does seem to fit the episode, as it's about a land where a man named Captain Coda has created a machine that eliminates all music. That's a sad thoughta world without music. I'd love to hear some of the back stories and detail from Rick about his writing process for the Mission Magic songs. (IF he could even recall the details surrounding it. It was a long time ago and I'm guessing it was a bit stressful completing a new song each week). - Kelley Pearson
