Oblivious
(Rick Springfield/Matt Bissonette)

New face, Full smile
2 feet, gone wild
Racing, young heart
Close gate, false start
When it came for you I could barely breathe
Punched a hole right through
You were gone
Forever
Forever is a long, long time
I never thought it would hurt like this
I’d rather be, I’d rather be
Oblivious
Oblivious

Black rain, fall hard
Caught me, off guard
Shooting, bright star
Shine on, where you are
When they sang for you I could barely feel
Numbing down the fact I’m alone
Forever
Forever is a long, long time
I never thought it would hurt like this
I’d rather be, I’d rather be
Oblivious
Oblivious
Oblivious
Oblivious

Angel, get wings
Life starts, hope springs
Forever (Forever)
Forever is a long, long time
Forever
We’ll be at rest
Until that day I’d rather be
Oblivious
Oblivious
Oblivious
Oblivious

Song Facts: This can be found on Venus in Overdrive.

'Oblivious,' is the soul side of the song, 'Saint Sahara,' what we all felt and how we dealt with it. It is sometimes so good to be numb to pain but life can't go on if you stay numb all the time. The song itself is about the denial of the finality of death, but it's still a love song. - PRNewswire

Rick Says: Oblivious was a mix of two people.  Matt recently lost his Mom and we all recently lost a girl named Sahara that we were all very connected to.  And her passing affected us all really deeply.  There's a couple of songs on the album actually about that whole experience and what we felt.  - Amazon.com promo video

According to US

I love this song. I can’t quite put my finger on it, but I think it’s the way it’s written and sung almost like a poem. That is what it makes me think of. A poem written about a lost loved one and put together with music to make a beautiful song. Again, I can relate certain aspects of my own life into it, so it holds special meaning for me in more ways than one.

Beautifully written, awesome music, love his voice in this one. One of my favorites! It makes me feel something when I listen to it. I like that. - Amy L
