MONTY & ME
(words and music by Poulsen/Woodley)
Ahhhhh, Ahhhhh, Ahhhhh
Running around fell into a fountain
Monty and me tripped over a log
Lay on my back and laugh 'til it hurt me
Beautiful day for walking the dog
Shadoop, sha lalalalala...
All the pretty young mothers were pushing their prams
From a bald headed man with a bag in his hand
Would you like to come with me
We shall see what we shall see
I could see she was afraid
So we stepped in right away
Sic 'em boy
Monty and me go walking each Sunday
Saturday night found me in a pub
Drinking the ale like wine to awake me
Beautiful day for walking the dog
Shadoop, sha lalalalala...
All the pretty little mothers were pushing their prams
From a bald headed man with a bag in his hand
Would you like to come with me
We shall see what we shall see
I could see she was afraid
So we stepped in right away
Running along fell into a fountain
Monty and me tripped over a log
Lay on my back and laughed 'til it hurt me
Beautiful day for walking the dog

According to US
This is a 'typical' 70's sounding song in my opinion. Somehow it blends in with all other songs that I have listened to from this time period. As far as the lyrics go, they are a little ridiculous, and I gather that "Monty" is his dog. Maybe I am wrong, but that's what they appear to be referring to. I could also do without the "shadoop sha la la la.....not too 'groovy' if you know what I mean. Maybe if I had a taste for music from this era, I could have enjoyed this one, because it does seem like a happy 'cutesy' song, but 80's music was my 'thing' and I just can't seem to get into this one.

This is not the worst song I've ever heard from this era in music, but it's far from one of the best. I don't loathe it, but I don't love it either. It has a very Beatle-ish sound to me, especially in the line "all the pretty young mothers were pushing their prams from a bald-headed man with a bag in his hand." Maybe the Beatles type sound is what saves this one a little bit for me. As it was mentioned in another review, it DOES sound to me like he is talking about his trip walking his dog, but possibly staggering around from stopping off at the "pub" for a few too many beers. I love the line, "sic 'em boy!"
The song sounds a lot like a nonsense song. It has a fun beat and what sounds like tambourines, which I like. The end of the song gets on my nerves pretty much where they are just singing, "na na na na, na na na na." I don't know why, because if done right…"na na's" and "sha na na's" don't really bother me. In fact, at times I think it's a cool addition to a song. Fortunately that part doesn't go on and on. And the song is only about 2 ˝ minutes long. For that I am glad! I think Rick's input on this one might have shaped it up quite a bit. It's somewhat catchy, but it just needed a bit more.
